This four-day intensive course will integrate self-awareness and self-development as with the professional role of a psychotherapist. Since the therapist is the primary instrument in the delivery of psychotherapy, personal development needs to be an essential part of professional training.
This course will meet the following Entry-to-Practice Competencies required for registration with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO):
Demonstrate awareness of the impact of the therapist’s subjective context on the therapeutic process.
Recognize the impact of power dynamics within the therapeutic relationship.
Protect client from imposition of the therapist’s personal issues.
Employ effective and congruent verbal and non-verbal communication.
Use of self-disclosure appropriately.
This comprehensive course will provide both the theoretical and empirical background for effective use of self in therapeutic context. Students will also learn how to practice non-conditional acceptance, listen with authentic empathy, and manage transference and countertransference. In addition, participants will be able to assess key areas of personal development, discover their dysfunctioning assumptions, and resolve personal issues which may undermine therapy effectiveness.
It will include lectures, demonstrations, role-play, case studies, group discussion, assessments and completion of a personal portfolio.
The cost will be $1000, including HST.
2nd Future of Logotherapy Conference
The Viktor Frankl Institute Vienna is pleased to announce that the 2nd “Future of Logotherapy” Conference will be held on May 15-18, 2014 at the Billroth Library of the Vienna Medical Society, Frankgasse, 1090 Vienna, Austria – the historical medical library and conference hall Viktor Frankl visited on an almost weekly basis and gave one of his first lectures at after returning to Vienna in 1945. Colleagues from all over the world are expected, to share and hear about current trends and developments in logotherapy and existential analysis.
